Gia Abucejo is an interdisciplinary artist working primarily across moving image and text. Operating at the intersection of digital nativity and Filipino diaspora, she works within an archipelagic imagination, often considering its material and virtual artifacts.
She has produced films, animations, and video installations exhibited nationally and internationally at galleries and festivals, including Millennium Film Workshop and Mattress Factory. Her first video work, Shield Ambiance, was awarded "Best Imaginative Transformation: Exceptional Storytelling in Experimental Video" at the 2023 Feminist Border Arts Film Festival. Gia also creates projection design for live performance, collaborating with theater artists at Kelly Strayhorn Theater, SoMad, and CAVE.
Gia is based in New York City, where she is a fellow at Art on the Block NYC. She is currently exploring new modes of storytelling and making up excuses to collaborate more with her father.
